Recording...
Making an album/single is an important step for any band, as this is what you will be sending off to record companies. It will also be your second source of income - you can sell your CD's at your gigs and on your website. Below is another one of MusicHoundDog.com's general guides; this time for "Making a record"...
Pre-production: When practising, record onto a 4-track and use this to prepare for your recording studio session.
Prepare well before going into the recording studio! Most charge by the hour, so the better prepared you are, the less it'll cost you. Be one time to the studio - you're paying for it! - and be well rehearsed.
Make a checklist so you don't waste time because you've forgotten equipment/music.
Plan what you're doing in the studio and in what order, this will save time too.
Choose a recording studio that will suit you, your music style and budget. See our recording studios list for contact numbers and ring for details.
You may want to get a producer for when you're in the stuido. This will cost, but may save you time and money in the long run.
Now all you need to do is book the recording studio and record the tracks you need!
Once the recording's finished, you can either approach a major record label with it, an independent label or try to market it yourself.
Whichever path you choose, make sure you get everything in writing and don't sign anything without talking to your manager!
There isn't really any more advice you need for the recording stages, but for post-production, album/single cover artwork is important. See our artwork page for more information and contacts.
